Um, so, ya...It's been awhile! Exciting things are happening and I wanted to share them with you. Here's the scoop: I was working 5 consulting jobs (ouch), I left 4 of them to focus on just one (C. Wonder), we got a puppy (cute overload), and I'm starting an exciting company with my friend Katie (she's pretty amazing).

If you are into making things with your hands and you are crazy about pretty materials, come sign up at For the Makers. The first boxes are packed, stamped and ready to hang out at your house! For the Makers is a space for sharing ideas, skills and inspiration. You’re invited to join us for our first month, at no charge. Some of the materials in the first box are only available directly from the supplier, some are vintage, some are samples from designer pals, all of them are awesome! Once you make something, whether it’s one of our projects, or you own, you’ll be able to post it and share it with your friends.
We are launching really soon and the boxes are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
I know most of you are amazingly creative and I can't wait to see what you make and share. You can also start following us HERE and HERE for day to day updates and inspiration.

Oh where to begin... This quote... Passion... How does it affect your life? Does your passion drive you to insanity, push you that extra mile, compel you to accomplish your goals? I have been learning a lot lately about what drives me and pushes me to chase down my dreams. This week I was accepted to a start-up accelerator program. This is a global network of start-ups and mentors that helps entrepreneurs launch meaningful and enduring technology companies. I have entered with a fellow jewelry-designing friend (now co-founder). They are pretty keen on kicking people out...a lot! So fingers crossed I make it all the way through. I hope to share with you soon my vision for the company we hope to create. Your feedback is always welcomed and appreciated. You all have been such an amazing sounding board for the past year and I am truly thankful.

Pursue your passion, pursue you dreams, pursue your craziness...and lets see where it takes us!

HELLO FRIENDS! I'm alive and trying to pull myself out of this 24 hour jewelry-design command station I have going on. The weather is perking up and today my goal is to be outside as much as possible. I've decided all I want to wear this summer are long flowy dresses belted at the waist and cute summer sandals (with wild hair that I never have to blow dry)...so I will be in search of that outfit today, I'm thinking Bloomies will have what I'm looking for. Bits of a week

I've been staying so busy with work and haven't been able to post properly so I've been keeping snapshots of my daily adventures through my camera lens. The past 7 days have been packed with awesomeness! Yesterday I went to the JANY jewelry tradeshow in search of beads for a necklace I'm making for a friend's wedding. I picked up some gorgeous kynite teardrop stones that you can see in the final picture...still deciding how to put them all together. This week I've been making trend boards for the India job and my apartment has been cluttered with magazine clippings and balled up discarded tape. Went to brunch on Saturday with my lovely boyfriend at L'asso in Nolita. He thought it would be a good idea to take me out of my permanent "must design jewelry" state I've been residing in for the last month...he was right! Lastly, I really lucked out this week. I was at Kate Spade for their Employee Sample Sale. I know what you must be thinking because I still get completely giddy when I think about how awesome it was. I found some great items I've been eying on their website for months. Next time (fingers crossed for that) I'm bringing more mullah. Girls were leaving the sale with garbage bags full of purses. No joke, like a year supply of handbags for one girl if she changed her purse weekly!

The Weeks Ahead

Oh Monday, thank goodness it's a holiday today! This week starts another round of "busy-ness." Tomorrow I am going back to Kate Spade to freelance for the next 2 weeks! I really enjoy designing there so I am excited to be back.

Other than my usual freelance routine I wanted to tell you all some EXCITING news...

I will be traveling to India really soon! I had been interviewing for this freelance job since November and finally signed my contract early this month. I am so unbelievably excited about this opportunity that it hurts. The Job: Designing collections for a jewelry manufacturer in India that wants to break into the American market. Needless to say, this is going to be a very busy ~~who cares it's too exciting~~ month!

Find it lining coats, trimming sleeves and skirts, or on your shoulders keeping your neck warm. If you are sensitive about owning the real thing I am positive H&M, TopShop, and Zara will have plenty of synthetic options available come August.

Happy Friday! Did you make it through the week gracefully? I am super excited for the weekend to begin. Lots of projects need to be started this weekend and I have made sure my schedule is wide open. Above are some new and old photos I found in my ridiculously large photo folder. Aren't those lace wingtips adorable? I bought them from Candela NYC and they arrived in the mail yesterday. The warmer weather needs to hurry up so I can wear them without freezing! The chocolate tart was from Tarallucci e vino, one of my favorite coffee/wine spots in the East Village. Found those pretty-pretty feathers at the Brooklyn Flea and then went out with my girls to a delicious brunch at No.7. Last but not least my favorite ring this week, I haven't taken it off!

Lavender Hot Chocolate

Found this recipe over at à la mode* and I have to try this, it looks delicious. Especially since the days in NYC have been freezing and now raining, not snowing? This looks like a perfect pick-me-up!

lavender hot chocolate

Since lavender is quite fragrant, adjust amount according to preference. For a creamier hot chocolate, a 1 to 1 ratio of dark to milk chocolate can be used. Makes 2 servings.
hot chocolate:

2 cups whole milk
3 ounces dark chocolate (70% cacao)
1 ounce milk chocolate
1/4 teaspoon lavender buds

whipped cream:

1/2 cup cold heavy whipping cream
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract or seeds from 1/4 of a whole vanilla bean pod
1/2 tablespoon granulated white sugar

For whipped cream, place cold cream, vanilla, and sugar into a cold mixing bowl. Beat the mixture with a whisk or mixer until stiff peaks form. keep refrigerated until ready for use.
For hot chocolate, heat milk and lavender over medium heat, whisking occasionally until the milk begins to simmer. Remove from heat and let lavender steep for 5 minutes. Strain lavender and return milk to saucepan. Over medium heat, add chocolate and mix until chocolate is melted and incorporated. Whisk milk mixture for 10-20 seconds until frothy. Pour into mugs or bowls and serve with a dollop of whipped cream.

I look at jewelry on the Internet like it's going out of style. I am always looking for new techniques, new artists I've never seen before, new trends...and the list could go on for hours. Today I ran into Denise Julia Reytan's website and immediately my jaw dropped. I wanted to share them with you because I can't get enough of them and they have truly brightened my day!

This is what she says about her work, which is of course better than what I could say about it:

Tales of Texture

I was looking through photos from last year for inspiration and noticed I had nice texture references. Texture is so important in jewelry...as well as other creative ventures...but since I know jewelry I will speak of it specifically. Besides the look of your jewelry it's the feel of the piece when you pick it up that really draws a person in and makes them fall in love with it. Texture must be present whether it's subtle or bold, smooth or rough, delicate or sculptured.
I hope you too will find inspiration in these photos...whatever your creative projects may be!

Winter Wonderland

My flight touched down in North Carolina right after the snow fall. I couldn't resist running outside and taking a few photos...I mean it's gorgeous! There is a big difference between a snowfall in NYC (muddy and dirty after 30min) and a snowfall in North Carolina (pretty and white all day long). I love how all the trees are covered in what looks like bunches of bright white cotton.
I'm pretty sure our family dog loves it too!

A Very Merry Christmas

I'm finally back in the city! This Christmas was wonderful. My boyfriend and I spent the holiday in Pennsylvania and North Carolina. I luckily made the last available flight from NYC to Raleigh NC before the big blizzard hit. I would have been devastated not making it to NC and I think you can see from the above pictures why...cookies, lights, snow, turkey, and lots of love!
A few examples of why Christmas at my parent's house is my favorite time of year. These cookies were recently described as my Christmas security blanket. My Mother makes around 80 pounds of cookies every year...which attributes to my usual 5 pound weight gain from Thanksgiving to New Years. Don't really mind though because those suckers are hard to turn down.

Baking Late Night: Plain & Extraordinary Chewy Chocolate Cookies

As per usual I want chocolaty, chewy things at a time others are falling asleep. I would much rather stay up til the wee hours baking delicious cookies! Here is what I chose to bake last night (after reading through too many pages of Tastespotting), Plain & Extraordinary Chewy Chocolate Cookies by Dine and Dish. They were really easy to make and the bake time is only 9 min. I baked half the batch just like the recipe said and I added 1/2 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips to the other half...because I can always use more chocolate!

Seeing red everywhere!
This week was super busy. Besides going crazy trying to find everyone Christmas gifts, I was working three freelance jobs and booking two new (very exciting) jobs. I hope to tell you about them soon! I am getting anxious because it is going to be a very busy January.
NYC is looking very festive, I was by the Rockefeller Christmas Tree a lot this week and this years tree is really pretty and sparkly. My favorite windows this season are at Bergdorf Goodman. I was a bit disappointed with Macy's and Barney's window displays this year...but you can't always get it right! So if you are going to be in NYC this holiday season be sure to make your way up to 5th Ave and 58th St for a peek at Bergdorf's displays.

This week has been one of the busiest in a long time! Suppose it's just that time of year...

Last night my boyfriend and I celebrated our 7 year anniversary! We bought our first Charlie Brown Christmas Tree together. Tonight we are putting the lights on and decorating it with my handmade ornaments. Don't get too excited...I cut Christmas-y things out of catalogs like Williams Sonoma, Garnet Hill, and King Arthur's Flour. Then I laminated them with packing tape and tied string to the top. You can check out the picture below, it's pretty ridiculous.

I've gotten a few orders for the new jewelry and I am super excited.

Brooklyn: Williamsburg Holiday Shopping

I went holiday shopping with some friends this weekend in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. We hit up Mast Brothers Chocolates (YUM), Old Hollywood Jewelry, and a holiday trunk show. Saw some pretty awesome Aesa jewelry and even some of my favorite "grown-up sneakers" by Dieppa Restrepo. I still have so many people left to shop for on my list...I'm sure you feel the same way! So I know I'm a bit behind on all the holiday shopping hoopla...but the website is finally done and I couldn't be more excited. I have been designing, casting, making, praying, crying, photographing, whining, editing, and finally...It's ~~Done~~ getting there. Take a LOOK!

I will be adding new items into my new SHOP all day, so check back later for more.

Try: Expresso Chocolate Chip Cookies

I made this recipe yesterday when I couldn't get over my "need chocolate NOW" meltdown. They were really good but only if you call them regular chocolate chip cookies...unfortunately I couldn't taste the espresso flavor. If you are going to make these I would suggest adding more than the 1 1/2 teaspoons the recipe calls for. The recipe came from Chef Kevin Garvin...Enjoy!

NYC: Union Square Holiday Market

The sidewalks of New York are turning into one big Christmas celebration. I stopped by the Union Square Holiday Market yesterday and ended up buying a gorgeous quilt from India (first photo). I could not walk away from it and therefore just had to have it...It's love! Next on my list are the holiday markets at Madison Square Park and Grand Central Station. It's mostly the same from market to market but I do find the occasional can't-live-without-you item.

Union Square Holiday Market runs until December 24th.

A Southern Feast

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, by far! If you've been lucky enough to taste the amazingness that comes out of my Mother's kitchen...well then you know why. This year was no exception, every dish was delicious (please refer to the last image shown for confirmation I am telling you the truth: my brothers overflowing plate). My Mom and I also agreed that this year's turkey was the best ever. We may or may not say this every year but I think we really meant it this time.

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. The year always flies by super fast after the turkey is served. Time to start holiday shopping, decorating, and partying with friends!

There will be six ring designs when its all said and done, here are the first three. I have been wearing the large one with pyramids (in silver) everyday for the past two weeks...I really never want to take it off. Wear-testing new jewelry is always the best part and I can't wait to have the others finished!

Hot Chocolate Weather

I get so excited when the weather starts to change and the leaves are falling from the trees. This weather change means its time for hot chocolate! Around Christmas-time my Mom makes a huge pot of homemade hot chocolate and we all sit at the table till every last drop is gone. Well, I can't wait that long...so I'm making my own...join me!

Ingredients:
3 1/2 cups sugar
2 1/4 cups cocoa
1/2 tablespoon table salt
Whole milk for serving

Directions:
In a large bowl, combine sugar, cocoa, and salt, and whisk to combine well. Store the mixture in an airtight container.
For individual servings, pour 1 cup whole milk into a microwave-safe mug, and microwave on high just until hot. Add 2 tablespoons of cocoa mix, and stir to dissolve. For a larger batch of cocoa, warm the milk in a saucepan set over medium-low heat, taking care not to let the milk boil; as it warms, stir in 2 tablespoons of mix for each cup of milk.

If you'd like to go the less conventional route...For each individual serving:
Stir in 1 tsp of instant coffee for a mocha taste
Stir in 1/8 teaspoon each of ginger and cinnamon for a delicious kick
Or stir your cup with a whole cinnamon stick
Stir in 1 tsp of seedless raspberry jam...sounds strange but its yum
Stir your hot chocolate with a candy cane for a peppermint flavor

And- Don't forget the Marshmallows!

Brunch at The Smith

This years Birthday Brunch was held at The Smith in the East Village. Birthdays are always a good excuse to get everyone together...14 amazing friends came out for the celebration. The food and drinks were delicious, the company was even better. I kinda wish every weekend could be a birthday brunch weekend! So, who's next?

Thanks to my lovely friends Katie and Anoop for bringing these beautiful roses from their window box! I had my boyfriend carry them around the city for the remainder of the day...so thanks to him too.

The collections—both womenswear and menswear—will hit 200 stores worldwide beginning on November 20 in the United States. Birthday Scenes

I had the best birthday! My mom drove up from North Carolina to celebrate the occasion. She brought with her a gorgeous birthday cake (pictured above) which I am still eating for all meals. We went to see the Broadway musical La Cage Aux Folles and sat a foot from the stage at a cabaret table! Kelsey Grammer and Douglas Hodge were absolutely amazing. My boyfriend was even kissed by one of the dancers and Kelsey himself. He had a huge lipstick mark on his face and we wouldn't let him rub it off! I tell you what it's going to be hard buying tickets past the front row again.
I am looking forward to tomorrow when all of my friends are gathering for a Birthday Brunch...and you know how I love my bloody mary's...so it's going to be another amazing day!

If this week is a look ahead at the rest of the year, I feel very fortunate. Hope everyone is having an amazing weekend too!

On the Eve of my Twenty...umm..what? Birthday

Jewelry Trends at the JA-NY Special Delivery Show 2010

It's that time of year again! Even though I thought this particular show was lacking in both quantity and quality I still want to share with you the best of what I saw. So grab your inspiration boards and get to work! Top trends seen at this seasons event:

Gem-encrusted Pendants - One of the best trends this season is layering. Layering all kinds of chains and charms. Be sure to add a statement making pendant that is dripping in diamonds or showcasing an interestingly cut gemstone. I saw pendants ranging from casual like Page Sargisson's lilac pendant to extravagant like Cathy Waterman's sapphire slice pendant.
Bold Minimalism - Make the most of this trend by using big, bold gemstones in clean settings. Or stack dozens of simple metal bangles on one arm. Keep it clean and sophisticated like these earrings by Ippolita or this lucite cuff by Alexis Bittar.
Wooden Accents - Alternative materials continue to pop up as metal prices rise. Wood is being favored in the industry. Use all colors and varieties of wood while mixing up precious and non-precious elements like this bracelet by Krystal Sasso.
Custom Cut Gemstones - Tiered of seeing the same gemstone shapes across all designers lines? Me too! So I was happy to see agate, jade, quartz, and onyx (just to name a few) carved with intricate patterns and interesting shapes. These gemstones can be the main focus of your design, like Wendy Yue's gorgeous ring, or the base for more embellishment.
Charms, trinkets, and fobs - No surprise here, charms have made a comeback recently. These are decorated with pictures, letters, symbols and designs that can be combined to create a message or theme like Louis Vuitton's Tutti Sweety Bracelet.
Animal Prints - Animal prints are a staple in fashion and now I'm seeing the same patterns used in jewelry silhouettes. Metal pierced with crocodile and zebra open work, etched bracelets and earrings. Try using animal-print embossed-leather as a base for clear lacquer in statement bangles.
The Updated Pearl - Old world pearls collide with new age design. Mix sizes, colors, and shapes with leather, chain, and edgy castings. I love the pearl usage in Matthew Campbell's bangle and Haute Hippie's multi-strand necklace. For this trend just go for the unexpected!

I think I'm going to write this week off completely. Since Monday I've had the flu and today will be my first day out of bed. Now here's what I learned...Go Get a Flu Shot!
So, this weekend is going to be full of work, work, work. Which shouldn't be a problem since I usually boycott Halloween to some degree every year. I used to love Halloween as a kid and I always had the most amazing "Mom made" costume. If your Mom used to make yours too I'd love to hear what your favorite was. I don't know what I would choose as a favorite, so next year I'll have to share with you some old family photos of Halloween.
NYC is always a great place to be when celebrating this holiday, and by saying this what I mean is, you will never see so many inappropriately dressed individuals in one place as you do here. Oh, Halloween...

Some Cookies are Worth the Shame

Its no secret that I love chocolate. Its also no secret that I love baking. So it should come as no surprise to anyone that I love the chocolate-chocolate cookies baked at City Bakery here in NYC. The problem is my love has now reached a dangerous level...I bought this $2.50 cookie with quarters I found in my change jar just the other day! Shameful. Unfortunately, not enough to prevent me from making the purchase. This bakery is on my block and it is always calling my name. Last night on my way home I thought I would surprise my boyfriend and buy him a cookie (to share of course). I get home sit down (trying really hard not to eat it) and five minutes later he walks in the door, smiles at me, holds up a City Bakery bag and says..."look what I got you!" All I could do was laugh, reach over in my purse and pull out the same bag. I mean what's better than one chocolate-chocolate cookie...that's right its two chocolate-chocolate cookies!

Hey, hey, hey...Happy Friday! I hope you all had a great week. I am finally starting to recover from my month-long freelancing madness. I have started designing my own line again and it is making me so happy. I hope to reveal some of the new designs in about a month or so, stay tuned. My apartment is filled with torn magazine pages, inspiration boards, metal samples, and dinner napkins I occasionally scribble on when I have an idea.
I think I am starting to channel Fall. It's getting a little chilly up here at night and I am loving it. Break out the chunky knits and leather boots!

The Conran Shop (previously located on the Upper East Side) is a new shop in one of my favorite stores in nyc: ABC Carpet and Home. I stopped by the other week to check out all of the changes they have been making. The Conran shop is fabulous and filled with innovative and fun home furnishings and accessories. I spotted these perfect copper wire bird cage lights and fell in love! Now where to put them?

NYC: Eataly

Eataly is an incredible (50,000 sq. ft) Italian marketplace created by chefs Mario Batali, Joe Bastianich, Lidia Matticchio Bastianich and Eataly founder Oscar Farinetti. I was instantly intrigued about this new undertaking and couldn't escape the buzz about Eataly (everywhere you go in the city)...so naturally I had to go see it for myself. Love it! I read a lot of mixed reviews before going but I was really impressed. Now this is by no means a substitute for the actual experience, but it is really great for the experience that it is...Espresso bar, homemade pasta station, eateries, huge wheels of Parmigiana, great produce, and even cookware. I have definite plans to return with a long list of items for my Italian feast (sometime in the near future)!

...Comes from the Stumptown Coffee Roasters at ACE Hotel. I love getting a huge latte and sitting in the ACE Hotel lobby, which is fabulous, whenever I can spare an hour. Next time you're in the area grab a magazine and go hang out here for awhile. You wont want to leave!

A Family Affair

I am finally back in the city! It has been one crazy month so far and my life is only getting back to normal. I drove up to Maine this past weekend with my family, one of my cousins got married at a beautiful location on the coast. Most of my Dad's side of the family lives in Maine and when I was little my family would drive up every summer to visit. It is such a beautiful place and I fall in love with it more and more every time I go back...gorgeous coast, crisp air, laid back style, lobster rolls and whoopie pies...you really can't go wrong with that!

We had visitors before and after going to Maine and I have no idea what a normal routine is this month. Here are some of the beautiful sights from our latest northern adventure.

How have you all been? I know I have a lot to catch up on. What have I missed? Tomorrow starts my 17 straight days of freelancing so blog posts might be spaced out over the next month...hang with me...normalcy should be right around the corner and I have lots of great pictures to share with you!

NYC: Momofuku Noodle Bar

The Momofuku Empire has quite the reputation. I live a mere 2 blocks from both Momofuku Noodle Bar and Momofuku Siam Bar/Milk Bar which can be a very bad thing. Yes, it is delicious and yes, I think you should go. Only, I am partial to the Siam Bar so I would suggest trying that first. If you go to the Noodle Bar make sure to order the Steamed pork buns and the Roasted corn...YUM! Also their ramen (pictured above) is delicious but for $16 a bowl it's not amazing so switch it up and try one of their other "bowls." Oh and if you go...you know how to reach me!
